Before going to a deep discussion about Mesothelioma Treatment, it is necessary to know that “What is Mesothelioma?”

A mesothelioma is a form of cancer, which is generally caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is naturally occurring silicate minerals with fibrous crystals. In Mesothelioma, it happens that malignant cells of our body found in the sac lining of the chest or abdomen. When these asbestos fibers of silicate minerals are breathed in or get inhaled, they pass into the alcoves and crannies of the pleura where they irritate and can cause physical damage to the mesothelial cells and may result in Mesothelioma, which is cancer.

Symptoms of this disease may not appear before 30 to 50 years of exposure to asbestos and show shortness of breath, pain in the chest, weight loss, anemia, and fever. Hence, the disease can be diagnosed through a number of ways such as a Physical exam, X-Ray, RBC Count etc. Now it’s the turn to discuss the treatment of this disease if we see an overview of the treatment for Mesothelioma the result comes is chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.

Chemotherapy includes the use of a drug named Pemetrexed which is approved by FDA (Food & Drug Administration). This drug can be taken with the combination of Cisplatin and Folic acid is used to reduce the side effects of the major drug i.e. Pemetrexed.

Radiation Therapy is applicable to the patients who can tolerate a procedure of treatment known as Radical Surgery. Radiation Therapy is not the only thing that can cure the disease; it is also followed by the types of chemotherapeutic treatments.

Surgery is another option for the treatment of this type of cancer. But the important thing is that it is not proved to be very useful. Sometimes this mode of treatment disappoints the patient with no positive effects.

Immunotherapy yields variable results and also sometimes it happens that patient going under this therapy experience little side effects.

The most important thing that needs to take care is less exposure to Asbestos.
