Knowing about Sex During Pregnancy

Sex During Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, it does not mean you cannot have sex during pregnancy. However, there are many things you should consider first before doing so. This is a topic which is considered very sensitive, and many will find it awkward to discuss with their friends or even their partner. However, to clarify any questions you may have, I have written this article.

Firstly- Is it safe to have sex during pregnancy?

If your pregnancy is going along smoothly (no health concerns), then it is okay to have sex. You should not worry about it hurting the baby or causing a miscarriage because that is just not possible. Miscarriages are not related to something you do or don’t do; they come because of chromosomal problems or other matters related to the growing baby. Your body will give your baby natural protection, and so you don’t have to worry about sex hurting your baby.

Will I want to?

Some women may want to have sex more than others, and even if you do have sexual desires during pregnancy, they are likely to change depending on the stage you are.

First Trimester- During this stage, you are going to experience a lot of fluctuation in your homes, as well as nausea and fatigue. Although some women may still want to have sex, many will not.

Second Trimester- During this stage, you are most likely to have increased sexual desires, an increment causes this in blood flow to breasts and sex organs.

Third Trimester- Again you may not have a great desire to have sex due to an increase in weight, back pain, etc.

Your feelings are not the only thing that will determine if you have sex during pregnancy. You also have to take into account your partners feelings on the matter. Some men (probably the minority) will have strong feelings against sex during this period, and this may be to do with traditional or religious values. However, most men find intercourse during pregnancy to be the erotic and sensual experience. Make sure you have a clear discussion with your partner about sex and pregnancy and avoid any misunderstandings that could result in unwanted argument and stress.

Sexual positions

When it comes to sexual positions for intercourse during pregnancy, you will find that most things are okay, however, be conservative. A woman’s body is more delicate during pregnancy, and sexual positions should reflect that. I would advise you to try a few places out and see which one causes the least discomfort. Some who are recommended are Woman on the back man from behind, the woman on top, hands, and knees, etc.

What about Oral sex or Anal sex during pregnancy?

Although oral sex may be safe during pregnancy, I would avoid it just to play it safe. There is a condition caused by air being blown into your vagina resulting in a blood vessel being blocked, which can be life-threatening for you are your baby which can be. Although the chances of this happening are slim, I prefer to play it completely safe.

Anal sex is not recommended a sex during pregnancy because of discomfort it may cause and the chance it may lead to hemorrhoids. It could also lead to a bacterial infection which can spread to the vaginal area.
