Gum disease also known as periodontal diseases are serious bacterial infections that destroy the supporting bones and fibers which attach your teeth in the mouth. Gum disease is it any like gingivitis, chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, or necrotizing periodontal diseases affects the gum health. Every gum disease tends to begin with plaque formation on the teeth, this plaque accumulates and gets harder into a substance called calculus or tartar which is tightly bound to the teeth and requires professional help for removal.

Gingivitis is very common and if not taken care at early stages then can lead to periodontitis which is the major cause of tooth loss in adults. But don't worry, here are some gum disease natural cures which you can follow along with your other gum disease treatment prescribed by a specialist.

Back to school – Learn to brush your teeth correctly, take at least 4-5 minutes to brush your teeth.

Plaque mostly accumulates around the gum line which is the most favorite area for gingivitis to start. So make sure you brush at the gum line properly. For this hold your brush at 45-degree angle on your teeth so that half the brush cleans the teeth and other half works on the gums.

You can have two toothbrushes and use them alternately so that the first one dries out completely before the next use. Make sure you brush and floss your teeth twice or thrice a day to ensure appropriate plaque removal. Not only brushing is important, scraping your tongue to get rid of the bacteria is important too. Don't use a sharp tool, you can scrap your tongue with a tongue cleaner or your toothbrush from back to front for 10-12 times.

Salt water cures – If you have any gum pain or bleeding, swish your teeth and gums with warm salt water. The salt will help to drain out any abscess and have an in general soothing effect.

Vitamin C and calcium - In olden days vitamin C was used to treat scurvy, but if your try now also it will definitely help cure bleeding gums. Gingivitis is the first stage for periodontal osteoporosis. Provide more calcium to your bones by adding dairy products, fish, almonds and dark green leafy vegetables in your diet. Make a habit to eat at least one raw vegetable daily as these are foods rich in fiber which will help stimulate and clean the gums and teeth naturally.

Listerine – Use Listerine as it has been proved to be effective in inhibiting gingivitis by reducing the development of plaque. Also if you prefer other mouthwashes look out for domiphen bromide and cetyl pyridinium chloride as active ingredients as this help to inhibit the development of plaques.

Baking soda – This is one of the very effective gum disease home remedies, mix plain baking soda with little water and rub it in a small section of the gum line. Then brush your teeth, baking soda will naturally help to clean, polish, deodorize and neutralize all the acidic bacterial wastes in one shot. Don't try all the remedies in a day for your gums; take intermissions to avoid boring yourself and your teeth.
