Seven Ways to Help Clear Up Your Acne
Many people, both adults, and teens, suffer from acne. While there are many treatments available, there are Seven Ways to Help Clear Up Your Acne you can do, right now, to help improve your skin and keep it clear.
1. To improve your skin, you need to keep your face clean. This is important, whether you have a breakout, or not. The unclean surface may contain impurities, extra oils, and dead skin cells.
To keep your face clean and clear, you should wash at least twice a day with warm water and a mild cleanser. Do not use harsh soaps, especially those with fragrances, which can be harsh. You want to wash your face gently with a soft cloth or use your hands. Also rinse your face thoroughly to remove all traces of the cleanser.
2. Use a moisturizer. Some of the products you use to improve your acne may dry your skin and cause it to peel. A moisturizer can help to reduce the drying.
When shopping for a moisturizer, you want to look for one that is labeled “noncomedogenic,” which means that it does not contain substances that cause acne. You may also want to look for a moisturizer based on your skin type, especially if you have oily or sensitive skin.
3. Try over the counter acne treatments. Non-prescription acne treatments use ingredients like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, lactic acid and glycolic acid, to dry your skin and curb bacteria that may be causing acne.
You can start with a small amount first to see if it’s effective. If the treatment does not work the way you want, look at the main ingredient and try a product that uses a different type of acid.
4. Use cosmetics sparingly. If you have acne, you want to avoid using cosmetic products, such as foundation, blush or powder, while you’re having a breakout. When you use these products, you want to wash your face thoroughly at the end of the day.
When choosing the cosmetic product, look for those labeled oil-free. You also want to avoid products that contain chemicals and dyes. Natural products are best for people with acne. You also want to choose products that are “noncomedogenic.” Read the ingredients before purchasing.
5. Know what’s going on your hair. Hair products can contain oils and fragrances. When you use sprays, gels, and pomades, they can irritate the skin, if your hair gets in your face. If you have long hair, try to keep it pulled away from your face.
If you have oily hair and it gets in your face, then it can add additional oil to your skin. This can be a problem if you’re breaking out. Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner often to reduce the oil and keep your hair clean.
6. Don’t touch your face. Many people don't realize, how often they touch their face during the day. Whether you’re rubbing your eye or propping your cheek on your hand, you’re potentially spreading bacteria and irritating your skin.
You also want to avoid picking or popping your pimples. When you put your fingers or hands near a pimple, you open up the possibility of infection. When you pop a pimple, you risk scarring your face.

Stay out of the sun. Exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can increase redness and inflammation for acne sufferers. Also, many acne medications make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.
If you must go outdoors between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm, wear protective clothing and apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher. When choosing a sunscreen, just make sure the product is noncomedogenic. Besides, read the label carefully to make sure you are applying the product correctly.
